My Roots "From mechatronics to software, where it all began"

I’m Kynji Kyle Niño A. Pepito, an Infrastructure Engineer at Vauldex Technologies Inc.
My background began in mechatronics at the University of San Jose–Recoletos, where I studied both hardware and software. Even though the major combined both fields, I was always more drawn to software. That interest eventually shaped my career path.

After graduating, opportunities were limited in my city, and I spent almost a year unemployed. That changed when my sister told me her friend’s company was looking for a software developer and didn’t mind training someone new to web development. I took the chance, and it opened the door that later led me to Vauldex.

When I applied, cryptocurrency and the Scala language immediately caught my attention. Since I mostly worked with C, C++, and Java in university, it felt like something new and exciting. I knew I would learn a lot here, especially in system administration and cloud infrastructure. And I still am.

The phrase “Simple is Best,” shared by our own Yosei-san, stuck with me and became a guiding principle in my work.

Work "Building infrastructure with stability and care"

At Vauldex, I help train new recruits and support the infrastructure that powers our web applications. My responsibilities include managing cloud environments, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring the stability and performance of our systems. I also work closely with developers during deployments and help troubleshoot production issues.

Our team structure consists of the Scrum team, QA, and Infrastructure. Collaboration happens through daily stand-ups, communication channels, and coordination during releases and troubleshooting. The terminal is my most-used tool, and much of my work involves reading, analyzing, and interpreting logs and documentation.

Lessons "Facing gaps, gaining grit, finding clarity"

The biggest challenge I faced early on was realizing how large my knowledge gaps in web development were. I had preconceived ideas about HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, and I didn’t enjoy them much except for JavaScript. Without tools or frameworks during university, my codebases often became messy, and accepting that gap was difficult.

I overcame this with time and by asking seniors and colleagues for help, even when it felt uncomfortable. They pointed me in the right direction and guided me when I needed it.

One moment I’ll never forget was when I was asked to collate all transactions from a private XRP server. I didn’t have the tools or knowledge, and I felt like giving up. But management was patient and understanding, and they allowed me to complete it in my own way. It was difficult, but it became a validating experience that shaped my confidence.

Culture "Responsibility meets flexibility"

The atmosphere in our team is relaxed but responsible. I often describe it as “go at your own pace, but respect the deadlines.”
Communication is smooth and approachable, even with cultural or language differences. Our Scrum process, especially daily stand-ups, gives us natural opportunities to get help quickly when needed.

Working in this environment has made me more philosophical. Coding requires structuring thoughts into steps and modules, and that mindset has influenced how I think outside of work too.

Vision Designing systems that communicate clearly

I experienced the biggest growth during my early days at Vauldex, when the learning curve was steepest. Since then, I’ve continued learning, including exploring generative AI, and I recently earned the AWS AI Practitioner (Foundational) certification.

In the future, I hope to become a software architect someone who can bridge the gap between technical and non-technical perspectives with clarity. I want to design systems that make sense not only from an engineering point of view but also from a communication standpoint.

My work in infrastructure supports Vauldex’s vision by maintaining stable, secure, and scalable environments. This helps the business deliver features faster, reduce downtime, and create better experiences for customers.
